About

Are you ready to make a lasting impact on your community?

Become a part of Promise Arizona’s Digital English Academy for Adults!

We are looking for Virtual (Zoom) and In Person English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers for our Fall 2022 semester.

We work closely with adults from immigrant communities across Arizona. Become a part of the change in each of their lives. Some of our students can be learning English for the first time or already at an advanced level.

Who are you:

  • You're a community-driven individual. You want to make a change in the lives of others through teaching and tutoring English.
  • You're creative. In your teaching methods and handling your group of students, you will sometimes look at using other resources in addition to our digital curriculum.
  • You're flexible! The experience presents its challenges but we guarantee that in the end it will be rewarding.

No previous teaching is required. We train and guide you throughout your experience! Burlington English, our digital curriculum, allows for easy-to-follow lessons and activities. Each lesson is well-structured so you don’t have to worry about prior planning of classes.

Take a look at our class calendar here: Fall 2022 ESL Promise Arizona Calendar

Our classes are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 pm - 8 pm

Classes begin August 29 and end November 9

Fall Break is October 3 - 7

Class Graduation Ceremony is November 16, 2022

We are flexible and understand you have a busy college schedule. Teach with us one day a week or up to three days! We ask for a semester long commitment.

As an ESL teacher, a typical week might look like this:

  • You show up to our facility or login to Zoom 10-15 minutes early.
  • Once students and other teachers begin to show up, greet and try to start a conversation.
  • If you are virtual, you will be placed into a breakout room with your students. In person teachers are designated a small room with students. Teachers take attendance using our shared Google Sheet attendance form.
  • Have fun teaching! Each lesson is meant to be an overall great time. Students are eager to learn and become more confident communicators.

About Promise Arizona:

We are based in South Phoenix founded in 2010. Our organization, together with hundreds of community members from across Arizona, led the fight against the racist SB1070 law that allowed for racial profiling against immigrant communities.

Now, we are committed to providing immigration services and education opportunities to communities, from citizenship applications and DACA renewals to affordable ESL classes. We advocate for the dignity and justice of immigrant communities at a local and federal level.

Join us in our mission!
