*COMPLETION OF THE TRAINING COURSE IS REQUIRED AS A PREREQUISTE IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION FOR THE JR. LIFEGUARD PROGRAM.

Application Process
1. Contact the coordinator at your site of interest to register for the Jr. Lifeguard training course which is required prior to volunteer hour eligibility (see below for contact information.) Course fee is $150 w/ a Rec card and $165 without. This covers an American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification. 
2. Fill out an application for the Jr. Lifeguard position by clicking "Register" above.
3. Pass a local law enforcement background check
4. Visit a Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court office (with your ID and parent or guardian) to submit a personal Records Request.
5. A city staff will reach out to set up an interview for the position

Junior Lifeguard

Position Description

A Junior Guard is someone who provides assistance organizing and conducting Summer Aquatic Programs. The work is performed under the direction of Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.  

Requirements

  • Ages 13-15
  • Swim 25 yards non-stop
  • Tread water for 1 minute
  • Swim underwater at least 10 ft. 
  • Must take Jr. Lifeguard course 

General Responsibilities
All Junior Guards are accountable to their assigned Lifeguard and supervisor. If you have a problem with a child, tell your assigned Lifeguard. Duties include: 

  • Help in setting up and cleaning up before and after aquatic activities. 
  • Assist lifeguard when planning and conducting aquatic activities. 
  • Assist in keeping track of equipment and materials used in classes, activities, and games. 
  • Help lifeguards and swimming instructors in supervising children. 
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Aquatic staff. 
  • Assist lifeguards during summer camp open swim. 
  • Help lifeguards “keep an extra eye out” at the Activity Pool, Slide Pool, and Lap Pool. 
  • Report any safety or behavior problems to your supervisor. 
  • Act as a friend to all of the children.
