About

Welcome to our Bucktown Nursery and thank you for volunteering with us! Our nursery is home to over 5,000 native trees that will eventually be planted in targeted restoration sites throughout the Lake Pontchartrain Basin.

Nursery tasks include but are not limited to:
-weeding pots
-rotating pots on pallets if not being watered evenly
-pruning broken branches and dead stems
-test running and adjusting irrigation timer
-transplanting cypress seedlings
-adding soil to pots as needed
-churning compost pile once per week
-applying ant and wasp poison as needed
-fertilizing trees as needed (only once per season)
-notifying Pontchartrain Conservancy staff members if supplies run low or need to be replaced

Please note:  No one else is allowed access to the nursery except for members of this group, PC staff members, and Brown Foundation staff members.  Potential volunteers must sign up to assist at the nursery through this givepulse page and fill out the volunteer waiver before they are allowed access to the nursery.

Volunteers are able to park on the first floor of the parking garage located at 320 Metairie-Hammond Highway or outside the main gate of the nursery at the corner of Mayan Lane and Plaquemine Street.

Please reach out to Owen at owen@scienceforourcoast.org with any questions.
