The Community Development Department of the City of Lancaster is expanding to involve citizen volunteers and provide outreach and education for low-income residents to assist their path out of poverty. With goals in the areas of affordable housing, economic opportunity, housing counselling, and energy/water efficiency, the VISTA Member will build our capacity for developing affordable homeownership and rental housing, increasing the ability of residents for energy/water efficiency, home repair, and maintaining healthy homes, and connecting residents to local training and job opportunities. Research the new Neighborhood Homes Investment Act tax credit program for revitalizing single-family homes and ways that our community can develop affordable housing by partnering with non-profit community development corporations in other areas.

Member Duties : The VISTA Member will be responsible for assisting the department to: Recruit, train and coordinate citizen volunteers including member of a Citizens Advisory Board that provides input on our programs; Research and pursue funding and in-kind opportunities; Publicize/market the Healthy Homes program; Create community outreach and education events to support the Healthy Homes program including DIY home repair, energy/water efficiency, and foreclosure prevention; Mobilize resources and create community events to support our neighborhood improvement activities; Design multiple tools to gather community input for our activities; Facilitate action items for the Fairfield Housing Coalition subcommittees on Homelessness and Homeownership; Develop a system to connect job seekers with training and employment.
