Appalachia Ohio Alliance (AOA) is a nonprofit land conservancy serving the central Ohio region.  AOA manages 90 fee-owned preserves totaling 7,500 acres.  We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for the natural world to fill a Land Stewardship Technician / Intern position.  Location is flexible.  Most work will be performed on our preserves located in three adjacent counties:  Hocking, Pickaway and Fairfield. 

This is a part time / temporary position expected to last 3 to 4 months, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance and funding. Applicant should expect to work an average of 5 days per week depending upon weather. Schedule and hours can be somewhat flexible. Some weekend work will be required for events. A successful candidate should be able and willing to spend most days in the outdoors, work with a variety of tools, and keep an organized account of activities and achievements.

The land stewardship technician is primarily responsible for performing a variety of on-site land stewardship tasks; most importantly, the control and removal of invasive / non-native plant species on our preserves.  The land steward would also assist with AOA events and volunteer workdays on preserves.  This position will report to the Stewardship Director.

This position is compensated at $18/hour and primarily located in central Ohio.

Qualifications

         Must be 18 years or older and able to work in the U.S.

         Some experience or education in Natural Resources or Conservation desirable

         Good physical condition and health

         Ability to navigate steep and rugged terrain on foot

         Ability to work outside in a variety of weather

         Valid drivers license and ability to provide personal transportation (Note: some worksites may be up to an hour and a half from home base, depending on your location)

         Strong work ethic

         Comfort working alone or with a group

         Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
