CFI School Garden Volunteer Position (work study option)

About

Purpose/Objective: Our School Gardens volunteer/work study student will work outside in the school gardens, as well as inside elementary school classrooms. They will work together with Community Food Initiatives staff to develop and teach fun, engaging, hands-on lessons to students in various grades throughout Athens County. This exciting position provides a variety of experiences and is extremely rewarding for those interested in early childhood education and food sustainability.

Duties & Activities:  Assisting with teaching school garden lessons to students (both in the classroom and in the garden)  Helping with lesson plan development and curriculum relevancy  Assisting with general up-keep and maintenance of the school gardens (weeding, clearing beds, mulching, harvesting, watering, etc.)  School garden party/event planning  Spring planting planning as well as seed starting/maintenance in greenhouse  Designing and creating school garden kiosk materials
