About

Opportunity:
Become a Big and mentor a young person from the surrounding community. We will be continuing our program through the Spring 23 semester. And are still in need of UMASS Dartmouth students who want to volunteer and become a Big to a Little age 7-13 from the local area of New Bedford. Littles are bused to campus two Saturdays a month and you meet with them from 11-2pm doing fun activities together.

Organization Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts, is the only one-to-one youth serving mentoring organization in the area. We’ve been around for over 70 years and serve more than 100 kids in the New Bedford community. With research and proven outcomes at our core, we’re an organization that’s making a real difference with young people.

You don’t need super-powers to be someone’s hero…you just need to be you, and be there! Right now, young kids all over the Southcoast are looking for someone to be a mentor, a guide, a friend- someone who can help them reach their potential. That someone could be you- and it could be the most rewarding thing you’ve ever done.

Time Commitment:
Bigs and Littles meet on campus every-other Saturday through the Campus Based Program. A staff member of the BBBS guides a mix of group activities and 1:1 time to help youth reach their full potential. If the Saturday schedule doesn't fit a Site-based program at the Carney Academy (11 minutes from Campus) is also available for those with their own transportation. This is a full year commitment.
