Dear Faculty, Staff & OWLs,

On behalf of the Office of Civic & Community Engagement, we invite you to join us for the First-Year La Verne Experience (FLEX) & New Student Community Engagement Day on Saturday, August 26, 2017!  On this day, we will be welcoming our new incoming first-year students, transfer students, & first-year law students to participate in this La Verne Experience signature kick-off event, which offers them & us the opportunity to manifest, in action, our core value of service to the community!

We are looking for volunteers in three areas:

#1 - Set-Up Crew (6AM-9AM)

Set-up crew will help with setting up signage, t-shirts, breakfast bags, etc.

#2 - Break Down Crew (2PM-3PM)

Break-down crew will help with taking down signage, collecting materials from teams, & making sure Sneaky Park looks clean after the closing program.

#3 – FLEX/Team Leaders (7AM-2PM)

FLEX/Team leaders will work alongside Orientation Week Leaders (OWLs) who will lead a team of 25-30 students at their respective community service sites for meaningful projects in which all with engage! Your role is to take attendance, participate in service, guide the group throughout the day, & co-facilitate a group reflection with your assigned OWL.

#4 – Orientation Week Leader (OWL) (7AM-2PM)
OWLs will work alongside FLEX/Team leaders who will lead a team of 25-30 students at their respective community service sites for meaningful projects in which all with engage! Your role is to work with your FLEX/Team leaders to take attendance, participate in service, guide the group throughout the day, & co-facilitate a group reflection with your assigned FLEX/Team leaders.

For those who are committing to volunteering the entire day (7AM-2PM), the anticipated schedule for the day is as follows:

7:00am—FLEX/Team Leaders & OWLs arrive for check-in at Campus Center/Leo's Den to receive instructions & materials for the day.  A light breakfast will be served with lots of coffee made available!

7:30am—New students arrive to University Quad to pick up snacks & free t-shirt

7:45am—New students check-in with FLEX/Team leader(s) & OWLs at University Quad

8:00am—The morning kick-off event begins at University Quad

8:30am—Team dismissal to service sites

9:00am-1:00pm—Service activities take place at various community agencies across the region, from Ontario to Los Angeles (time will be allotted for a lunch break & group reflection) 

1:00pm-1:30pm—Groups return to campus for closing program at Sneaky Park 

1:30pm-2:00pm—Closing event takes place at Sneaky Park (ice cream & refreshments will be provided)
