It was an amazing experience being able to talk to middle school students about my college experiences.
I really enjoyed giving the tours, my two groups were amazing! My first group was actually the ELD and special ed students, yet they were so interested in learning about college. Personally I have a minor case of dyslexia and attended ELD classes for a year in my elementary school, so I know sometimes you may feel discourage. I mentioned to the few that got more personal with that they can make it and should always have hope. With my second group I had between 24-30 students. They were amazing!! Very well behaved, calm, and supper interested of knowing more about La Verne. We entered the Wilson Library, the art gallery in Miller Hall, Mainero Hall through Founders Hall, even had a mini performance by Professor Ryan and his student Shane. Overall my experience with the promise scholars was great :)
It was so much fun and an honor to welcome 380 Serrano middle school students. The students enjoyed learning about the University, taking campus tours, and hearing from first-generation student panelists. I personally enjoyed helping a student, who unfortunately was in crutches, but I got to give him a personal tour of the campus.
It was a lot of fun being able to tell kids why I liked La Verne and giving them a tour.
