Refugee Health Promotion

About

Welcome to the ARHP page!

Our program mission:

San Antonio's Afghan Refugee population grew exponentially in 2021. After US forces withdrew from Afghanistan, the US opened its doors to Afghan parolees and SIVs. This event led to the creation of our program; we started with a mission to address the disparity in health awareness and access amongst the local Afghan population. We now help refugee communities with a wide range of their wellness needs:

  • Doctor appointments
  • Health education classes
  • Wholistic wellness classes
  • Mental health advocacy
  • Transportation to/from appointments
  • Interpretation & referrals for appointments

Who we serve:

ARHP not only serves the San Antonio Afghan community, we have now expanded our services to other refugee communities.

Why need your help:

As the need for our services grows, as does our program. We are holding more Health Education classes, as well as more free-form outdoor wellness activities. We have an influx of neighbors in need of doctors appointments, Medicaid renewals, and so on. Your aide is crucial in meeting the needs of those we serve in a timely manner.

In addition to health & wellness classes, the program provides babysitting services for clients with children between the ages 18 months-old to 4 years-old, so parents can attend class. ARHP also needs assistance in the office with data entry and application filing. Click on the volunteering descriptions for more information. ***Must be 18 years or older to volunteer and complete a background check in VIRTUS & OVASE trainings***In order to have the best volunteer experience, volunteers are encouraged to:
