About
Led by Dr. Janise Parker (School of Education) in partnership with New Zion Baptist Church, this research project examines processes and outcomes associated with a university-church youth support program. The program aims to improve academic skills and behavioral and social-emotional skills associated with academic success for predominantly Black Kindergarten through 12th grade students, in response to COVID-19. Student support will be provided by school mental health graduate trainees through virtual tutoring services, under the supervision of the PI and Co-PI (licensed mental health faculty members in counselor education and school psychology). Alongside one-to-one student support, graduate students will facilitate parent informational sessions on a variety of topics. A secondary goal is to develop graduate students’ multicultural competence.
